60-Minute Mentoring Program

Need some career advice? You're in the right place! The YPG’s 60-Minute Mentors program gives members a chance to help each other and figure out this crazy business.

Who's it for?

People young to publishing looking to learn more about their own specialty or who want to change genres or departments. Priority will be given to those who've been a member of the YPG the longest.

How does it work?

The YPG will match you up with another young publishing professional in the area of your interest to meet over coffee. (If you live outside of New York City, you can have your convo via phone or email). For instance, if you are looking for a job as an editorial assistant, you can be paired up with an associate editor. If you want to stop designing pages and start over in subrights, you can be matched with someone in that field.

I want to be a mentor!

The YPG needs people who have worked in the biz for at least three years to donate their time as 60-Minute Mentors. It'll only take one hour—no further commitment required! Plus it feels great to give back! Just email Courtney Young at ypg_mentoring@yahoo.com and tell her what your current job is and what you feel comfortable giving advice about.

I want to be mentored!

Please email Courtney Young at ypg_mentoring@yahoo.com. Be sure to include what you are doing now and how long you’ve been there as well as what subject you are interested in learning about.

YPG Buddy Groups

Are you interested in meeting people from different publishing houses? Want to exchange notes with other editors, publicists, marketers, or fresh-faced assistants? Looking to learn more about what it’s like to work in another area of publishing?

YPG Buddy Groups is a great way to meet new publishing people in a small, no-pressure setting. Call it whatever you like: group mentoring, independent roundtabling, private networking, or just instant publishing friends.

Who Can Join?

All YPG members are welcome to sign up for a group.
This is in addition to 60 Minute Mentoring, so if you already participated in that program, you're welcome to join this one as well. The more the merrier!

How does it work?

You tell us who you want to meet (job function, kind of publishing, etc.), and the part of town that's most convenient for you. Then we'll match you up with four or five of your fellow YPG members. What you do together is up to you. Maybe you just exchange information by email. Maybe you meet up for drinks once a month. Maybe you go bowling in Brooklyn on Tuesdays. The sky's the limit.

Sign up now!

Joining is simple. We’re creating new buddy groups all the time. Just email ypgbuddygroups@gmail.com with answers to the following questions and we’ll match you up with some good people:

*Name:
*Job:
*Company:
*Who I want to meet:
*Where I want to meet them:
